The essential oil is steam distilled from the bark and\/or heartwood of the small Amyris balsamifera tree which is native to the West Indies.&nbsp;It is a slightly viscous, sweet woody fragranced oil which is clear to pale yellow in colour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">The chemical profile of this essential oil is interesting with the major constituents being:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"> 31.219% Valerianol<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">13.25% Elemol<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">11.302% Gamma Edesmol<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">7.54% Gamma epi Eudesmol<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Properties of Amyris oil include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">A PubMed research study found Amyris to be a mio-relaxant (skeletal muscle relaxant) due the high percentage of valerianol.<sup>(1)<\/sup> It is also considered to be antiseptic, antimicrobial, balsamic and sedative. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">It is used mainly as a perfume fixative and as fragrance oil in cosmetics. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\">Blends well with cedarwood, patchouli, eucalyptus smithii&nbsp;and lavender essential oils.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:8px\">Reference<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:8px\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC8070282\/\">A Comparison of the Composition of Selected Commercial Sandalwood Oils with the International Standard &#8211; PMC (nih.gov<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Amyris balsamifera is often called West Indian Sandalwood, however it is a member of the rutaceae family so not related to sandalwood at all.
